The Story of the Sevenoaks 7 (ok, copied and pasted from their blog and facebook page by me)

Developments So far, little else to talk about. We have secured the services of Alex Edwards to accompany us on the journey, so we now have a full team once more! We are still trying to organise a date, but at the moment the trip is looking likely to take place in August of this year - so let's hope it's not too hot! We are already 8% of the way to achieving our overall total in sponsorship, however we are hoping to at least double this overall. If you are interested in donating to the cause, then please visit: http://www.justgiving.com/sevenoaks7forwillcarus Thanks for reading, we'll hope to update you soon. Less than a week to go, please keep donating! Here is a very brief route map for the cycle! The missing locations are as follows: Clun Youth Hostel (L); Welsh Bicknor Youth Hostel (M); Street Youth Hostel (N); Exeter Youth Hostel (O); Golant Youth Hostel (P); Lands End (Q) The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 21 August via Mobile. The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 22 August via Mobile. Absolutely drenched sat in a cafe on lochernhead...spirits remaining high and well over half the way to Stirling for the evening stop Phew...3 days down and we've reached our first Youth Hostel in Glencoe! We dipped our toes in Loch Ness, flashed past Ben Nevis and were photographed at John O' Groats. I remember that 19th August 2011 was one of the saddest days of my life, but one year later we completed over 100 miles in a day on the first leg of our journey, and in total we've covered 233 miles in 3 days!Day 5 - 42 miles covered, staying at New Lanark Youth Hostel! Hitting England tomorrow and meeting our 2nd support driver Peter Rawlins! Day 5 - 42 miles covered, staying at New Lanark Youth Hostel! Hitting England tomorrow and meeting our 2nd support driver Peter Rawlins! Apologies that the updates haven't been so frequent recently, a lack of signal/credit are the main reasons! Here's a brief catch up... Day 6 - we crossed the border back into England and met 2nd driver Pete Rawlins at Carlisle YH Day 7 - pouring rain played havoc with our mileage, as we were forced to wait in a pub for two hours until the weather eased off. It was still raining however, and I (Ja ck) crashed my bike around 50 miles in and had to sit out the final 30 miles of the day Day 8 - we set out from Slaidburn for another 80 mile long day, and despite making an unplanned trip through Blackburn in the pouring rain, we made it to the beautiful town of Chester for our night stay! Day 9 - a late start due to bike repairs meant that we missed the good weather and had to cycle in torrential rain once more, but despite being caught behind a steam carriage for 5 miles, we made it to our destination - Clun - in good time before being treated to a fabulous dinner by Ed's mum! I will endeavour to post some more detailed reports from every day when I can get to a computer, and would also like to quickly send a big thank you to all those of you who sent packages up to Carlisle for us - they were really appreciated and are helping us through! Day 9 - After two very though days of 80 miles staying in Slaidburn and Chester we now head on to Clun today, travelling 60 miles. A double puncture for Alex has halted our progress so far today, but we are well on the way! Day 11 - Longest day so far. Did not make it to the hostel till 9 o'clock due to taking four hours to get through Bristol! Not far away now! Hope the weather holds out! The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 29 August via Mobile. Day 11 - Longest day so far. Did not make it to the hostel till 9 o'clock due to taking four hours to get through Bristol! Not far away now! Hope the weather holds out! Absolutely gutted, had such a super morning on the bike before the mech snapped. On the way to Plymouth to try and sort the problem The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 30 August via Mobile. Onto the finishing straight! 149 miles left (hopefully!) before the finish line. Morale (or mine at least) was lifted significantly today as we hit the most beautiful city in the South West of England, Exeter, with the sun shining over the East Devon hills. We were treated to a dinner by Joffie's parents, and have a cooked breakfast to look forward to tomorrow morning. Thank you to everyone for all of your support so far, we could really use a bit more to get us through the last two days! The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 Saturday via Mobile. So after a fair few detours and countless other cycling trip cliches, we've finally reached our final day. After a few mishaps yesterday, we safely made it across two ferries into Cornwall and over the River Fowey to our final Youth Hostel in Golant. Perhaps for the first time on this trip we resemble a proper team of cyclists, as we are already showered, gelled up and have eaten breakfast! Today should be a great day and we hope to arrive in Lands End sometime between 3:30 and 5! The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 Saturday via Mobile. Incredible. Just completed JOGLE. All it took was a little Will Power! The Sevenoaks Seven 2012 9 hours ago. So back in Sevenoaks now after a somewhat trying, emotional but ultimately incredible couple of weeks travelling from one end of Britain to the other. In that time we covered an estimated 1107 miles (plenty of detours), saw and accounted for 103 pieces of roadkill and crossed through 3 countries. Whilst our efforts as cyclists have been recognised, the work from our two drivers Eric Wyatt and Pet er Rawlins must not be taken for granted - they did a phenomenal job over the fortnight waiting patiently for us as we trekked through areas such as The pass of Glencoe, The Lake District and Dartmoor, and without them we certainly wouldn't have made the finishing line in such good time. Thank you to everyone for your incredible support throughout the process of this journey, for all your kinds words of advice and your tremendous donations, all of which will not only help to ensure that people who live with Epilepsy day to day get the help and support they need, but also provide a lasting memory of one of the most fantastic young men I and many another ever had the pleasure to meet. Whilst yesterday will certainly be one of the proudest days that we all experience, the magnitude of what we have achieved has yet to sink in. One thing I certainly have learnt however is that no matter how good your equipment may be, no matter how strong you may be, anything you dream of is achievable with strong Will Power. Photos, videos and more still to come. Jack
